SEF SHOWER UNIT
In the Antelope Valley, there are about 4,000 homeless men, women and children who often go weeks and months without a roof over their heads and that means no access to a shower, basic hygiene or attention to personal care. While there are organizations and resources available to serve a variety of needs, there are fewer than a dozen shower heads available to them. Less than a dozen shower heads for 4,000 people.
Of all the indignities endured by the homeless, chief among them is living among the filth of the streets often without the possibility of a shower. A good shower can make all the difference in the world. The Sophia Elizabeth Foundation believes in the restorative power of a shower that's why our team provides a mobile shower unit to the homeless in the Antelope Valley.
Offering this service to our homeless friends is something that we love. But we can't do it alone, we need to constantly be raising funds to keep this program going. The shower unit can be a stepping stone for the homeless to transition into jobs, housing and schooling opportunities by promoting a positive self-image, bolstering self-esteem and instilling confidence. We are not the only ones who believe so, our homeless friends have one constant request: Showers.
We are able to pull up to an encampment and provide a hot shower, clean towels, soap, shampoo, shaving cream and razors and things that most of us take for granted. More than that though, our team of volunteers is able to engage in conversation, build relationships, demonstrate love, and create a truly caring environment. An individual is allowed to be in a unit for 10 to 25 minutes. Depending on location and demand. Once an individual’s time is complete, S.E.F. volunteers clean the stalls to ensure safety and hygiene.
The Sophia Elizabeth Foundation doesn't stop there. We provide everything needed for a shower but also give individuals who use the showers a fresh pair of socks, new underwear and a hygiene pack full of toothpaste, deodorant and other travel-sized toiletries donated to S.E.F. by individuals and other organizations.
