Garvey/Allen Visual and Performing Arts Academy for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (GAVPAA STEM)
Garvey/Allen Visual and Performing Arts Academy for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (GAVPAA STEM) is an educational institution that serves historically disenfranchised Achievers (students) to give them access to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics). At GAVPAA STEM Achievers are introduced to STEM and the Arts daily. We focus heavily on Social Emotional Learning and teaching our Achievers (students) how to have a growth mindset to be academically, socially, and emotionally well. We emphasize local and global responsiveness as our motto is “Be the Solution.”
Garvey/Allen Visual and Performing Arts Academy for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (GAVPAA STEM) is a direct-funded Charter School authorized by Riverside County Office of Education. GAVPAA STEM serves ALL students (“Achievers”) in grades 5-8 regardless of gender, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, religion, or any other protected class who seek an exceptional education in a culturally diverse setting where creative expression is respected and welcomed. GAVPAA STEM is dedicated to transforming students into “Achievers” by providing an intensive, high-level college preparatory curriculum infused with visual and performing arts; to include art, music, theatre, and dance and infused with science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Thus, all Achievers will have the opportunity to succeed academically and be prepared for high school.
We are the only full-day, site-based charter school with a focus on both STEM and the Arts for grades 5-8 in our region. Our Achievers are historically 2 to 3-grade levels behind academically. Before the pandemic, our extended day provided Achievers with both remediation and grade-level core content, as well as electives in both STEM and the Arts daily. Additionally, Achievers were immersed in a Conservatory of their choice (dance, culinary arts, African drums, music production, and piano) taught by an industry professional once a week.
Our Achievement Guides (teachers) are provided extensive Professional Development weekly, to ensure their core content delivery has depth and rigor.
