Pakistan is facing the worst series of natural disasters from 2005 to 2015. Pakistan experienced earthquake, 2005, GLOF, avalanche, landslide, heavy snowfall, torrential rains, droughts and flood disasters. The series of flooding 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014 perished over 3,000 people and the cost of destruction in a billion dollar. Over 70 million people affected and millions of houses and infrastructure destroyed. The children, women, old age people and people with special needs seriously affected.
In 2015 the landlocked district of Hindukush region- Chitral Pakistan with half million people witnessed unprecedented torrential rains over three weeks, completely paralyzed lifeline, critical infrastructure, community assets, essential services and the people remained stranded for five long weeks without access to hospital, schools, daily use commodities, employments, business and opportunity market owing to destruction of roads, bridges and other mean of communication.
The flash flood destruction killed over 40 people and another 35 injured. The official estimates of destruction are 1.4 billion PKR. Over 350,000 people were affected, while 7,200 people(800 families) completely lost their houses and all other domestic belonging, the flood wash away, leaving the children, women, people with special needs and old age people under open sky.
Emergency relief activities initiated by Government ended upon restoration of the roads and bridges. There is no progress on the provision of shelters and food supply to the affected people who completely lost their crops, business, livestock, fruit bearing trees and forest used for cooking, heating and construction.
The shelterless 7,200 people under serious threats of psychological depression, stress and shocks about the emerging winter severity and harshness, when the mercury will drop to nines 10-20 degree Celsius by the end of November. Survival without proper accommodation, heating and proper food and clothing is absolutely not possible.
The cost of basic food, clothing, heating and shelter support will be $55.55 per person per month. This support is vital till the next season by the end of April, when the people can stay in the open air without heating and shelter.
